Problem Solving

1. A ball was kicked into the air which follows a parabolic path described by the equation:

h=-2(t-4)2+10

Step 1:Make a let statement.

Let h repersent height

Let t repersent time

a)When does the ball reach its maximum height?

-the question is asking how long did it take for the ball to reach its highest point.

-on a paraboa graph the vertex it the higest point

Step 2:Set bracket to 0

h=-2(t-4)2+10

t-4=0

+4+4

t=4

The ball took 4 seconds to reach its highest point.

b)What is the maximum height?

Step 3: Plug in your "t"(x) value into the equation

h=-2(t-4)2+10

h=-2(4-4)2+10

h=-2(0)2+10

h=-2(0)+10

h=0+10

h=10

The maximum height is 10m.
