Completing the Square

Moving from standered form(y=ax2+bx+c) tvertex form(y=a(x-h)2+k)

Step 1: Block out "c" value in the standered form

Example:

y=x2+6+5

y=(x2+6)+5

Step 2:Use the (B/2)2 (Axis of symmertry) formula with the "b" value

y=(x2+6)+5

(B/2)2=(6/2)2=(3)2=9

Step 3:Add and subtract the number you get in the brackets

y=(x2+6+9-9)+5

Step 4:Take the last digit in the bracket out but you have to multiply it by the first number outside the brackets in order to take it out

y=(x2+6+9-9)+5

1x-9=-9

y=(x2+6+9)+5-9

y=(x2+6+9)-4

Step 5:Use the perfect sqaure formula by square rooting the "a" and "c" value

y=(x2+6+9)-4

x2=x   9=3

y=(x+3)(x+3)-4

y=(x+3)2-4

Final answer=y=(x+3)2-4

Now you have turned standered form to vertex
